We had six footbridge surveys to do in the Coniston area & with the forecast looking good decided to go for a few days camping down there. There aren’t many campsites near Coniston that are walking distance to get food so we opted for Moss Side Farm which was 30mins walk into Broughton along a disused railway track.
For the first night we had taken food, Karen cooking the spag bol. You can see there was only one other tent on the site.
The farm had three terriers, one of which was an excellent thief of peoples rubbish
Then after tea Andy sets the fire!
With the fire it was warm enough to sit out all evening
On Monday we set off to do some of the surveys, looking down the valley, the river is the Lickle
Natty Bridge
Back at the campsite we are the only residents, Crags loving it as he has been off the lead all the time
On the site are these two renovated railway cabins which can be hired
Inside you get a double bed & bunks along with a wood burner
It is so hot we chose to sit in the shade
Admiring the view
The next day is cooler so we decide to climb a new Wainwright
Looking down on Blea Tarn
The Langdale Pikes
Zooming in on Blea Tarn
The Pikes from higher up
Our summit comes into view
Windemere comes into view
Lingmoor Fell (469m)
The Coniston fells
Looking down the wall we will follow back to make it a circular walk
The Langdale Pikes
Crag has found a stick (surprise!)
As we drop lower Blea Tarn comes back into view
We decide it is a good spot for lunch
Yes that black dot is Crag in the tarn
A Hercules pays us a visit
Back at the camp site Karen is popular with the ducks & one of the dogs as she has some bread
We had a lovely 4 days & will definitely use that camp site again
