Today we were back at Waberthwaite completing some more footpath surveys. We parked at The Brown Cow pub, which was apt considering we were to encounter more fields with the beasts in again today. Not a good start someone has snapped the fingerpost off (a farmer perhaps who doesn't want to advertise that a footpath runs up here??) Looking north to the Eskmeals viaduct & estuary This old stone sits on top of a wall at Charlesground, we could just read "To Broughton To Whitehaven By Ravenglass" Not sure if it is some sort of boundary stone, can't find any info on the internet. Yes there really is a footpath through here
We completed 4 surveys & then drove to the Eskmeals viaduct to have lunch & complete one more
Its close to low tide although not sure this boat is sea-worthy any more
We had about 20m of path to survey right in the middle of the estuary where the parish boundary doglegs around. We decided that was close enough there was no furniture on it.
When we arrived here we were surprised there was a van parked there & the guy immediately informed us the Nature Reserve was closed as they were firing close to the land, we could agree with that as there had been some rather loud bangs earlier.
