Working with a Helicopter in Ennerdale

A couple of weeks ago we were asked if we would help out with some marshalling when a helicopter was due to carry out some work in the valley.
It was a lovely sunny day & there was a lot of waiting around until the helicopter came, but we had the bags of gravel it was to move to sit on & take in some rays (these had been previously dropped off by road)

The helicopter had been working in Wasdale before us, here it is coming over carrying spare fuel in the tanks below

It landed by us, as you can see Crag wasn’t at all bothered by the noise & enjoyed the shade it gave

Then it was off to work, Karen went down to the Liza path with Crag whilst Andy stayed at the top on the road.  Our jobs were to stop any walkers passing whilst the helicopter manoeuvres were going on.

The helicopter dropped off stone and large planks to enable us on a future workparty rebuild the bridge over High Beck that was damaged in the floods of 2009. Here are the new spans for the bridge

Heres a couple of pictures from the week before when we were dismantling the old bridge

We then moved to Woundell Beck where more stone was to be moved into Side Wood

Lastly a few weeks before we were working near Black Sail so we  went down to have a look at the builders finished work with the lean-to.  We were told they are going to camouflage the roof
