Bridge Building at Ennerdale

Today we were back at Ennerdale building a bridge with Wild Ennerdale. It was a lovely day & as there were two other volunteers & Malcolm from the Forestry Commission Karen decide to take the dogs for a walk first. Looking back at Anglers Crag A chance for a dip in the lake This gives some idea of how low the water levels here are, you would never expect to see this much "beach" Better than the lake a muddy pool
Great Borne & Starling Dodd from the other side of the valley
An abundance of these daisies too
Back at the job site the men are digging the footing for the bridge
How mucky am i?
Whilst we work the dogs are happy playing in the river Liza
Lunch time and a break
Dave & Bernie set about putting the posts in
One side has handrails hence the longer posts
Then to screw the posts to the rests for the bridge
Then the heavy job of lifting the 5m Oak beams into place
The first one is in place, the second now needs lifting
And we have a bridge
With a handrail
We can't go over tomorrow, but they just now need to wheelbarrow some more gravel down for the path either side, secure the deck of the bridge & put another railing half way below the handrail.
A good days work
