Bridge Surveys in Wasdale

Today with our feet firmly back on the ground we headed to Wasdale to complete 4 more bridge surveys. The first two were on Over Beck & one of its tributaries. We didn't have to climb Yewbarrow which looks very imposing from here, but we did have to climb 230m up the valley floor. Across Wastwater to Scafell Pike & Sca Fell. Looking south west down Wastwater. Red Pike (Wasdale) in the distance, Yewbarrow to the right.
The falls on Over Beck
Further up the valley, Red Pike in the distance
The first bridge is in good condition
Then a steep climb upto the second bridge
Which was quite a simple design
The water tumbles down the fell
Karen testing the bridge
Illgill Head & the Wasdale screes
The first bridge is a long way below us
Looking down the lake
The valley opens up as we drop down
We then drove over to the National Trust car park to do the next two. Nice to see spring is finally here
Kirk Fell & Great Gable
Looking down the lake from a slightly different angle
The next bridge on Lingmell Gill, this is a well used one as it is on one of the routes up Scafell Pike
And the final bridge on Hollow Gill
A old & solid two arched "hump-back" bridge
